Hard to believe that it has been one year since Jay Reatard’s passing. I didn’t want to like Jay Reatard at the start. I took one look at the Blood Visions cover and thought it wasn’t for me….. not that I’m that “judge a book by its cover guy”…. over the following weeks after its release, I kept sampling songs on various blogs and it got to the point where I just caved in and picked up the record. Extremely glad I did.
Jay Reatard was a master of melodic hooks and creating songs that you could easily believe had existed for 40 years. Apparently he also put on a great live show… though I never got to see him live. It was always one of those situations where I had so many chances to see him (and many for free), but I always said that I would catch him next time.
